You'll never find a rainbow if you're looking down. — Charlie Chaplin | Printable Wall Art

“You'll never find a rainbow if you're looking down.”

Words by Charlie Chaplin (1889-1977) — Silent-film actor, director, and composer.

About this quote

This phrase encourages a hopeful perspective on life. It suggests that if you focus entirely on your immediate troubles or keep your head bowed in sadness, you will miss the beauty and opportunity around you. Optimism requires looking up and engaging with the world, allowing yourself to notice moments of joy and comfort even during difficult times.

The line is widely attributed to Charlie Chaplin, reflecting the gentle optimism of his screen persona, the Tramp. While associated with his philosophy and film music, it became popularised in print during the twentieth century.

People often hang this quote in a hallway or entryway to offer a cheerful reminder when leaving home.
