Collection: Victor Hugo Prints

Victor Hugo (1802–1885) wrote Les Misérables and Notre-Dame de Paris and spent nineteen years in exile for opposing Napoleon III. His lines are grand and generous, about love, struggle, music and the sea.

The prints carry the French original only, and the English translation is on the product page; five lines best known in English appear that way. Hugo works in a living room or above a piano. For a wedding or anniversary gift, the love lines are the place to start.

Questions people ask

How reliable is the attribution? About half of these lines are traced to a specific novel, poem or speech and marked high confidence. The other half are well established in French but hard to pin to a page, so they carry a medium grade on the product page. Two are marked disputed.
