You can't be that kid standing at the top of the waterslide… — Tina Fey | Printable Wall Art

“You can't be that kid standing at the top of the waterslide, overthinking it. You have to go down the chute.”

Words by Tina Fey (1970-) — Comedian, writer, and actress, creator of 30 Rock.

About this quote

This line warns against the paralysis caused by overthinking. Just like a child hesitating at the edge of a steep water slide, endlessly analysing a decision only increases your fear. Real progress requires letting go of perfectionism, embracing momentum, and taking the plunge. Once you commit, momentum carries you forward.

The quote comes from American comedian and writer Tina Fey’s 2011 memoir, Bossypants. She uses the metaphor to describe overcoming self-doubt and making bold professional choices without letting hesitation hold you back.

People usually hang this in a home office or studio to remind themselves to stop overthinking and take action.
