You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and… — Alan Watts | Printable Wall Art

“You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and exploring itself.”

Words by Alan Watts (1915-1973) — British philosopher and writer on Eastern philosophy.

About this quote

Alan Watts suggests that human consciousness is not separate from nature, but a vital opening through which the cosmos experiences itself. Rather than viewing yourself as an isolated observer placed inside a foreign world, this thought invites you to see your existence as a natural expression of the universe, actively participating in its ongoing self-awareness and discovery.

This line originates from the mid-twentieth-century audio lectures and writings of Alan Watts, who spent decades interpreting Eastern philosophy and pantheistic ideas for Western audiences, framing human life as a seamless part of nature.

People often hang this print in a quiet study or bedroom to encourage daily contemplation and perspective.
