Wer spricht von Siegen? Überstehn ist alles. — Rainer Maria Rilke | Printable Wall Art

“Wer spricht von Siegen? Überstehn ist alles.”
“Who speaks of victories? To endure is everything.”

Words by Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926) — Austrian-German poet.

About this quote

This line challenges the conventional focus on triumph and worldly success. Instead of measuring life by visible achievements or quick wins, it suggests that real strength lies in resilience. True success is found in the quiet ability to withstand hardship, persist through difficulty, and keep going despite setbacks, making endurance a higher virtue than temporary victory.

It comes from Rilke's 1908 poem Requiem for a Friend, written in Paris to honour painter Paula Modersohn-Becker after her early death. The poem reflects deeply on grief, art, and human struggle.

People often hang this in a home office or study for quiet daily encouragement during difficult projects.
