Wenn zwei sich streiten, freut sich der Dritte — German Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“Wenn zwei sich streiten, freut sich der Dritte”
“When two quarrel, the third one rejoices.”

A traditional German saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This traditional saying highlights how conflict between two parties often benefits an uninvolved bystander. When opponents focus entirely on defeating each other, they waste energy and lose sight of the bigger picture. A neutral third person can then step in, take advantage of the distraction, and gain the reward without engaging in the fight themselves.

This is a traditional folk proverb rooted in the Latin concept of tertius gaudens. It has circulated widely across German-speaking regions for centuries as a practical observation on human nature and strategic advantage.

People often hang this quote in a study or office to serve as a practical reminder about conflict and strategy.
