Cuando el río suena, agua lleva. — Spanish Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“Cuando el río suena, agua lleva.”
“When the river makes noise, it's carrying water.”

A traditional Spanish saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This classic traditional saying suggests that rumours and persistent chatter usually contain a kernel of truth. Just as the sound of a rushing river indicates that water is actively flowing through it, widespread gossip rarely arises from nothing at all. It encourages people to pay attention to subtle signs or warnings rather than dismissing widespread reports completely.

This is an ancient Spanish proverb with no single recorded author. It has been passed down orally for centuries across Spain and Latin America, appearing in various early collections of folk wisdom and regional idioms.

People often hang this print in a hallway or kitchen where family members gather to share daily news.
