Cuando menos se piensa, salta la liebre. — Spanish Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“Cuando menos se piensa, salta la liebre.”
“When least expected, the hare jumps out.”

A traditional Spanish saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This traditional saying captures the unpredictable nature of life. Drawing on hunting imagery, where a hidden hare suddenly leaps from the brush, it reminds us that opportunities or challenges often arise without warning. The core message is one of readiness and humility: no matter how carefully we plan, events can take us by surprise when our attention is elsewhere.

This is a traditional Spanish proverb dating back centuries. It appears in classical literature, notably Miguel de Cervantes’s seventeenth-century novel Don Quixote, illustrating its deep roots in everyday folk wisdom and speech across the Spanish-speaking world.

People often display this in a hallway or study as a lighthearted reminder to stay open to life’s surprises.
