當仁不讓 — Confucius | Printable Wall Art

“當仁不讓”
“When it comes to benevolence, do not defer even to your teacher.”

Words by Confucius (551 BC-479 BC) — Ancient Chinese philosopher, founder of Confucianism.

About this quote

This saying encourages people to act with moral courage and integrity without waiting for permission or deferring to authority. While respect for elders and teachers is central to Confucian thought, doing what is right takes precedence over hierarchy. When an opportunity to practise goodness or justice arises, one should step forward boldly and take responsibility without hesitation.

Recorded in book fifteen of the Analects, a collection of teachings compiled by Confucius's disciples during the Warring States period, this statement reflects the core philosophy of ancient China's Spring and Autumn era.

People often hang this in a home study or classroom as a daily reminder of moral duty.
