Was mich nicht umbringt, macht mich stärker. — Friedrich Nietzsche | Printable Wall Art

“Was mich nicht umbringt, macht mich stärker.”
“What does not kill me makes me stronger.”

Words by Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) — German philosopher.

About this quote

This phrase suggests that enduring hardship makes a person more resilient. Rather than breaking us, difficult experiences test our character and force us to adapt. By surviving adversity, physical or emotional, we gain inner strength, wisdom, and the capacity to face future challenges with greater fortitude. It views suffering not as a defeat, but as a crucial test that builds character.

The line comes from Friedrich Nietzsche's 1889 book, Twilight of the Idols. Appearing in a section titled Maxims and Arrows, it reflects his philosophical focus on self-overcoming and individual resilience through life's trials.
