看脚下 — Zen Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“看脚下”
“Watch your step”

A traditional Japanese saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

While literally telling a person to mind their footing, this Zen phrase carries a deeper spiritual instruction. It asks us to pay attention to where we stand right now, both physically and mentally. Rather than worrying about distant goals or past mistakes, we are encouraged to examine our current actions, mind state, and immediate surroundings with quiet awareness and honesty.

This classical Chinese and Japanese Zen expression is traditionally carved onto stone markers or wooden plaques at the entrance of monasteries. It acts as both a practical safety warning and an invitation to self-reflection before entry.

Hallways and entryways are ideal spots for this print, offering a gentle moment of mindfulness before leaving home.
