人の振り見て我が振り直せ — Japanese Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“人の振り見て我が振り直せ”
“Watch others' conduct and correct your own”

A traditional Japanese saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

Observing the behaviour and mistakes of other people serves as a mirror for our own conduct. Instead of judging or criticising others when they act unwisely, we should reflect on our own actions and quietly improve ourselves. The proverb encourages gentle self-awareness, reminding us that every person we encounter can teach us how to be better if we pay attention.

This is a traditional Japanese proverb that has circulated for centuries. While its exact historical origin and author are unknown, it remains one of the most widely cited folk sayings in Japan for teaching everyday ethics and personal reflection.

People often hang this print in a study or home office as a quiet reminder for daily self-reflection.
