Caminante, no hay camino, se hace camino al andar. — Antonio Machado | Printable Wall Art

“Caminante, no hay camino, se hace camino al andar.”
“Wanderer, there is no path, the path is made by walking.”

Words by Antonio Machado (1875-1939) — Poet.

About this quote

Life does not offer a pre-determined blueprint or clear route to follow. Instead, our actions, choices, and daily decisions create our personal journey as we move forward. Machado suggests that purpose and direction are forged through action rather than passively discovered. Looking back shows where we have been, but the future remains an unwritten space shaped entirely by our own steps.

The line comes from poem XXIX in Machado's sequence Proverbios y cantares, published within his 1912 collection Campos de Castilla. It remains one of the most celebrated verses in twentieth-century Spanish literature.

People often frame this print in a study or hallway as a daily reminder to embrace personal choices.
