To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart. — Eleanor Roosevelt | Printable Wall Art

“To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.”

Words by Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962) — U.S. First Lady, diplomat, and activist.

About this quote

This advice contrasts personal discipline with interpersonal empathy. Managing your own life requires reason, logic, and firm self-control. However, leading or guiding other people demands compassion, understanding, and emotional warmth. True wisdom lies in knowing when to rely on clear intellect for oneself and when to offer kindness and patient understanding to those around you.

The quote is widely attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt, the American diplomat and human rights advocate. It reflects her mid-twentieth-century philosophy on public service, compassionate leadership, and thoughtful personal governance.

People often hang this print in a home office or study to encourage balanced leadership and thoughtful decision-making.
