“Um ein tadelloses Mitglied einer Schafherde sein zu können, muss man vor allem ein Schaf sein.”
“To be an impeccable member of a flock of sheep, one must, above all, be a sheep.”

Words by Albert Einstein (1879-1955) — Theoretical physicist.

About this quote

Albert Einstein uses a witty metaphor to comment on human conformity. To fit perfectly into a group that unthinkingly follows others, an individual must stop thinking for themselves and adopt the mindset of the crowd. The quotation gently warns against sacrificing personal judgement, independence, and critical thought simply to gain acceptance or avoid standing out from the wider community.

Written by Albert Einstein in the 1950s, this aphorism reflects his lifelong scepticism towards rigid authority and uncritical conformity. It was recorded among his personal notes and published in collections of his writings.

People often hang this print in a home office or study as a humorous reminder to value independent thought.
