Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so. — Douglas Adams | Printable Wall Art

“Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so.”

Words by Douglas Adams (1952-2001) — British author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

About this quote

Douglas Adams riffs on modern physics to poke fun at everyday human routines. While physics tells us time is relative, practical reality makes the midday break feel impossibly brief or endlessly delayed. The line contrasts grand philosophical ideas with the simple, urgent reality of hunger, suggesting that our schedules are arbitrary constructs that rarely align with our daily needs.

This line comes from Douglas Adams's 1978 BBC radio comedy The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, later adapted into his 1979 novel. It is spoken by the character Ford Prefect while attempting to explain cosmic realities to Arthur Dent.

People often hang this print in a kitchen or office breakroom to bring gentle humour to daily lunchtime routines.
