“石の上にも三年”
“Three years sitting on a stone (perseverance pays off)”

A traditional Japanese saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This proverb suggests that even a cold stone becomes warm if you sit on it long enough. It serves as a reminder that persistence, patience, and endurance eventually yield results. Staying committed to a difficult task or uncomfortable situation over time brings transformation, reminding us that success rarely happens overnight and usually requires quiet, steady effort.

This traditional Japanese idiom has circulated for centuries as a popular folk saying. Its exact origins are unknown, though the imagery is often associated with the Buddhist practice of prolonged meditation, where patience leads to spiritual enlightenment.

People often hang this in a home office or study to encourage focus, discipline, and steady persistence.
