The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in… — Martin Luther King Jr. | Printable Wall Art

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

Words by Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968) — Civil rights leader.

About this quote

True character is revealed through adversity rather than ease. Anyone can show conviction when life is peaceful, but moral courage requires holding firm to one's principles during difficult, opposition-filled moments. Dr King suggests that a person's worth should be judged by how they act when standing up for justice brings personal risk or conflict.

This line comes from Dr King's 1963 book, Strength to Love, a collection of his sermons. He delivered these addresses during the peak of the American civil rights movement to inspire non-violent courage.

People often hang this print in a study or office to remind themselves to stay strong during difficult decisions.
