La raison du plus fort est toujours la meilleure. — Jean de La Fontaine | Printable Wall Art

“La raison du plus fort est toujours la meilleure.”
“The reason of the strongest is always the best.”

Words by Jean de La Fontaine (1621-1695) — French poet and fabulist, author of the Fables.

About this quote

This moral opens La Fontaine's famous fable about a wolf and a lamb. It means that those in power will always manipulate logic to justify their actions. In unfair conflicts, brute force dictates the truth, as the stronger party creates its own rules to rationalise injustice. It stands as a sharp observation on human nature and authority.

It is the opening line of Jean de La Fontaine's fable Le Loup et l'Agneau, published in 1668. The moral reflects seventeenth-century French court politics and the harsh realities of absolute power.

People often hang this print in a home office or study as a subtle commentary on power dynamics.
