“The mother art is architecture. Without an architecture of our own we have no soul of our own civilization.”

Words by Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) — American architect, pioneer of organic architecture.

About this quote

Wright argues that architecture forms the groundwork of all other creative disciplines. A society's built environment reflects its identity, beliefs, and values. Without creating a distinct architectural style that genuinely expresses its own time and place, a culture lacks a true identity. In short, the spaces we design both define and preserve the spirit of our civilisation.

Frank Lloyd Wright expressed this principle during a series of lectures delivered to the Royal Institute of British Architects in London in 1939. It encapsulates his belief in organic architecture rooted in human life and local identity.
