The most exciting phrase to hear in science is not Eureka! but… — Isaac Asimov | Printable Wall Art

“The most exciting phrase to hear in science is not Eureka! but rather, hmm, that's funny.”

Words by Isaac Asimov (1920-1992) — Science fiction writer and biochemist.

About this quote

True discovery rarely arrives with a dramatic flash of genius. Instead, major breakthroughs usually begin when someone notices a small, unexpected result that does not fit existing theories. Asimov reminds us that curiosity about minor anomalies often leads to real progress. Patience and observation matter more than sudden revelations, turning confusing moments into valuable opportunities to learn something entirely new.

Isaac Asimov, a prolific biochemist and science fiction author, popularised this observation in the late twentieth century. It reflects his lifelong commitment to explaining the realities of scientific work and discovery to the general public.

People often display this print in a study, laboratory, or classroom to encourage curiosity and critical thinking.
