“Il mattino ha l'oro in bocca.”
“The morning has gold in its mouth.”

A traditional Italian saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This traditional Italian saying suggests that early mornings are full of potential and value. It encourages waking up early to begin work, implying that productivity in the initial hours of the day brings success, prosperity, and peace of mind. By comparing dawn to gold, it serves as a gentle reminder that time gained early in the day is uniquely precious.

This ancient Italian proverb has equivalents across Europe, including Germany. Its exact origin is unknown, but it has been used for centuries to encourage industriousness, and famously featured in the Italian translation of Stanley Kubrick's film The Shining.

People often hang this print in the bedroom or kitchen to encourage a bright and early start.
