About this quote

This traditional Italian proverb warns against the dangers of rushing. Just as a mother cat that gives birth too quickly produces blind, helpless offspring, work done in haste often results in flawed, incomplete, or useless outcomes. It encourages patience, care, and thoroughness, reminding us that quality craftsmanship and wise decisions require time, attention, and proper effort to reach maturity.

This is a well-known traditional Italian idiom passed down through oral culture for centuries. Its exact origin and date are unknown, but it remains one of Italy's most frequently used proverbs regarding patience and careful work.

People often hang this in a home office or workshop to encourage patience and careful craft during daily tasks.
