“The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.”

Words by Carl Rogers (1902-1987) — American psychologist.

About this quote

Fulfilment is not a fixed endpoint or a static state where all problems are solved. Instead, a meaningful life comes from continual personal growth, openness to experience, and the conscious choices we make every day. Rather than striving to reach an ideal final point of happiness, Rogers suggests we focus on the ongoing way we live, adapt, and move forward.

This line comes from Carl Rogers' landmark 1961 book, On Becoming a Person, in a chapter titled A Therapist's View of the Good Life. Rogers was a pioneering humanistic psychologist who championed personal growth through therapy and self-acceptance.

People often hang this in a home office or study as a daily reminder to embrace personal progress.
