C'est la vie. — French Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“C'est la vie.”
“That's life.”

A traditional French saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This classic idiom acknowledges that disappointment, hardship, and unpredictable turns are an inevitable part of the human experience. Rather than dwelling on misfortune or things outside one's control, the phrase encourages a calm acceptance of reality. It serves as a gentle reminder to maintain perspective, adapt graciously to setbacks, and keep moving forward when life does not go according to plan.

Originating as a traditional French expression, the phrase entered common English usage in the nineteenth century. As a folk proverb rather than a literary quote, its exact origin remains unknown, but it remains one of the world's best-known French idioms.

It fits well in a kitchen or hallway, offering a lighthearted reminder to take daily mishaps in stride.
