Standing in the middle of the road is very dangerous; you get… — Margaret Thatcher | Printable Wall Art

“Standing in the middle of the road is very dangerous; you get knocked down by traffic from both sides.”

Words by Margaret Thatcher (1925-2013) — British Prime Minister.

About this quote

This quote warns against taking a weak, indecisive position in the name of compromise. Thatcher believed that trying to satisfy opposing factions leaves a leader vulnerable to attacks from all directions. True conviction requires taking a firm stance, even if controversial, rather than sitting on the fence where one pleases nobody and faces criticism from both left and right.

Margaret Thatcher used this phrase in a speech to the Conservative Party conference in October 1981. It reflected her conviction-led political style and rejection of consensus politics during a period of economic debate in Britain.

People often hang this print in a home office or study as a daily reminder to make firm decisions.
