Soul meets soul on lovers' lips. — Percy Bysshe Shelley | Printable Wall Art

“Soul meets soul on lovers' lips.”

Words by Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822) — English Romantic poet.

About this quote

This line suggests that a kiss is far more than a physical act. For Shelley, romantic affection allows two people to connect at the deepest spiritual level. The physical touch of a kiss becomes the point where two individual identities briefly merge, expressing the Romantic belief that true love involves a profound, transcendent union of spirits rather than mere passion.

The line comes from Shelley's 1820 lyrical drama, Prometheus Unbound. Written during his time in Italy, this verse play explores themes of love, freedom, and spiritual transformation, capturing the intense idealism characteristic of English Romantic poetry.

People often hang this print near a bedside or in a primary bedroom to celebrate romance and intimacy.
