Drum prüfe, wer sich ewig bindet, ob sich das Herz zum Herzen… — Friedrich Schiller | Printable Wall Art

“Drum prüfe, wer sich ewig bindet, ob sich das Herz zum Herzen findet!”
“So let whoever binds himself forever examine whether heart truly finds heart!”

Words by Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805) — German poet, philosopher, and playwright.

About this quote

This classic line cautions against entering permanent commitments, such as marriage, without first ensuring true emotional alignment. Friedrich Schiller reminds us that passion can fade, so lasting unions require a genuine connection of hearts rather than superficial attraction or duty. It is a timeless piece of advice advocating thoughtful reflection, patience, and deep mutual affection before taking a life-changing vow.

The line comes from Schiller's 1799 poem, Das Lied von der Glocke (The Song of the Bell). Written during the Weimar Classicism period, the poem reflects on human life, devotion, and societal values.

People often hang this print in a bedroom or hallway as a thoughtful daily reminder of romantic devotion.
