Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here… — Muhammad Ali | Printable Wall Art

“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.”

Words by Muhammad Ali (1942-2016) — Heavyweight boxing champion and cultural icon.

About this quote

This quote suggests that living a meaningful life requires helping those around us. Rather than viewing acts of service as an extraordinary favour, it frames kindness and civic duty as the basic price of our existence. Ali reminds us that our time on earth is a privilege, and helping others is how we earn our place in the world.

Muhammad Ali used variations of this phrase throughout his life, particularly during his post-boxing humanitarian career in the 1970s. He often credited his grandmother for instilling this core belief, which reflected his deep Islamic faith and commitment to social justice.

People often hang this print in a hallway or entryway as a daily reminder of purpose before leaving home.
