Von deinen Sinnen hinausgesandt, geh bis an deiner Sehnsucht Rand. — Rainer Maria Rilke | Printable Wall Art

“Von deinen Sinnen hinausgesandt, geh bis an deiner Sehnsucht Rand.”
“Sent forth from your senses, go to the very edge of your longing.”

Words by Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926) — Austrian-German poet.

About this quote

This line encourages us to experience the world fully through our perception, then venture even further. Rilke suggests that physical senses are just the starting point for human experience. By pushing past immediate sensations toward the limits of our deepest desires and aspirations, we engage with the sacred and discover the full depth of our existence and potential.

It comes from Rilke's 1905 collection The Book of Hours (Das Stunden-Buch), written in the guise of a young monk. The poem speaks of God addressing the reader, encouraging a complete and courageously lived life.

People often display this print in a study or bedside area to inspire daily reflection and creative courage.
