Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature. — Helen Keller | Printable Wall Art

“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature.”

Words by Helen Keller (1880-1968) — Author and disability-rights advocate.

About this quote

Helen Keller argues that absolute safety is an illusion. Nature offers no guarantees, and trying to avoid all risk cannot protect us from life's hazards. Instead, real security comes from facing uncertainty with courage. Seeking complete safety often shrinks our world, whereas accepting life as a bold adventure allows us to live fully and freely.

This passage appears in Helen Keller’s 1957 book, The Open Door, a collection of her thoughts on faith, courage, and perception. It reflects her lifelong belief that avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure.

People often hang this in a home office or study as a daily prompt to take brave decisions.
