Plans are worthless, but planning is everything. — Dwight D. Eisenhower | Printable Wall Art

“Plans are worthless, but planning is everything.”

Words by Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969) — 34th U.S. President, WWII Allied commander.

About this quote

Rigid outlines quickly lose value once reality intervenes, yet the mental exercise of preparing is invaluable. Through planning, you gain a deep understanding of your resources, risks, and options. When circumstances change unexpectedly, you are not bound to a failed map; instead, you possess the knowledge required to adapt and make sound decisions under pressure.

Eisenhower delivered this remark during a speech in November 1957. Drawing on his military background, he reflected on how dynamic conditions render fixed operational maps obsolete.

People often hang this print in a home office or study to encourage flexible thinking and thoughtful preparation.
