People buy into the leader before they buy into the vision. — John C. Maxwell | Printable Wall Art

“People buy into the leader before they buy into the vision.”

Words by John C. Maxwell (1947-) — Leadership author and speaker.

About this quote

This principle suggests that trust in a person precedes belief in their ideas. People follow individuals they respect and feel connected to, rather than abstract goals alone. A compelling vision is rarely enough on its own; without personal credibility, empathy, and integrity, even the finest strategic plans will struggle to gain genuine commitment from a team or community.

The quotation comes from John C. Maxwell's 1998 book, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. It forms the core of what he calls the Law of Buy-In, a central concept in his business and leadership teachings.

Managers and team founders often hang this in a home study or executive office as a daily focus.
