本来無一物 — Zen Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“本来無一物”
“Originally, not a single thing exists”

A traditional Japanese saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This Zen verse reflects the concept of ultimate emptiness, teaching that nothing in the world has a fixed or permanent identity. By recognising that attachments, anxieties, and concepts are fundamentally empty, one can release mental burdens. The line encourages a quiet mind, reminding us that original nature is free from clutter, fixed labels, and self-imposed limits.

This famous line comes from a verse attributed to Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch of Chan Buddhism, recorded in the Platform Sutra around the eighth century. It remains a central teaching in Zen tradition.

People often hang this print in a study or quiet bedroom to foster stillness, focus, and perspective.
