L'occasion fait le larron. — French Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“L'occasion fait le larron.”
“Opportunity makes the thief.”

A traditional French saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This classic proverb suggests that circumstances often provoke bad behaviour. Even people who usually act honestly may succumb to temptation if presented with a convenient opening and little risk of being caught. It is a pragmatic observation about human nature, reminding us that moral integrity is frequently tested by circumstance rather than purely by intent.

This traditional French folk saying has circulated for centuries. Its precise origin is unknown, but similar expressions appear in medieval literature across Europe, reflecting an ancient piece of practical wisdom shared across many cultures.

People often hang this print in a home office or hallway as a witty piece of everyday philosophy.
