“One must always repeat the truth, because error too is preached around us again and again.”

Words by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) — German poet, novelist, and statesman.

About this quote

Truth requires constant repetition because falsehood is continually promoted around us. Goethe reminds us that defending what is right and true is an ongoing commitment rather than a single task. In a world where errors and misinformation spread easily, simply stating the truth once is not enough. We must actively champion clarity, honesty, and wisdom every day.

This line comes from Goethe's conversations recorded by his secretary, Johann Peter Eckermann, in December 1828. It reflects Goethe's late-life thoughts on science, literature, and the persistent effort needed to maintain intellectual clarity against popular misconceptions.

People often hang this print in a study or library as a quiet reminder to uphold truth.
