No man will make a great leader who wants to do it… — Andrew Carnegie | Printable Wall Art

“No man will make a great leader who wants to do it all himself, or to get all the credit for doing it.”

Words by Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) — Industrialist and philanthropist, founder of Carnegie Steel.

About this quote

This observation highlights that true leadership relies on trust, delegation, and shared success. A leader who insists on controlling every task or claiming sole credit demotivates their team and limits what the organisation can achieve. Effective guidance requires humility, empowering others to take ownership, and celebrating collective achievements rather than seeking personal glory.

The Scottish-born American industrialist Andrew Carnegie built a vast steel empire by delegating to skilled managers. This widely cited maxim reflects his core management philosophy, recorded in collections of his speeches and writings on success.

People often display this print in a home office or boardroom to encourage teamwork and proper delegation.
