Ninety-nine percent of the failures come from people who have the habit… — George Washington Carver | Printable Wall Art

“Ninety-nine percent of the failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses.”

Words by George Washington Carver (1864-1943) — Agricultural scientist and inventor.

About this quote

This statement suggests that most setbacks stem from a reluctance to take personal responsibility. When things go wrong, people often default to blaming external circumstances rather than looking at their own actions. True progress requires self-discipline, accountability, and honest self-reflection. By refusing to rely on convenient explanations for defeat, one builds the resilience and practical mindset needed to achieve lasting goals.

George Washington Carver, an American agricultural scientist and educator at the Tuskegee Institute, offered this advice to his students. It reflects his core philosophy of self-reliance, discipline, and hard work during the early twentieth century.

People often hang this print in a home office or study to encourage accountability and daily focus.
