내 소원은 대한 독립이오 — Kim Gu | Printable Wall Art

“내 소원은 대한 독립이오”
“My wish is the independence of Korea.”

Words by Kim Gu (1876-1949) — Independence movement leader known as 'Baekbeom'.

About this quote

This declaration expresses an absolute commitment to freedom, placing national sovereignty above all personal ambition or desire. When asked for his greatest wishes, Kim Gu famously repeated the same answer three times. It speaks to singleness of purpose, moral clarity, and the devotion required to stand up for one's people during times of foreign occupation and deep political hardship.

This line comes from My Wish, a famous essay written in 1947 and published alongside Kim Gu's autobiography, Baekbeom Ilji. It reflects his lifelong devotion as a leader of the Korean independence movement under Japanese colonial rule.

People often hang this print in a home study or office as a daily reminder of purpose and integrity.
