님은 갔지마는 나는 님을 보내지 아니하였습니다 — Han Yong-un | Printable Wall Art

“님은 갔지마는 나는 님을 보내지 아니하였습니다”
“My beloved has gone, but I have not sent my beloved away.”

Words by Han Yong-un (1879-1944) — Buddhist monk, poet, and independence activist.

About this quote

This line explores the paradox of physical absence and spiritual devotion. Although a loved one, ideal, or homeland has departed, the speaker refuses to surrender their inner connection. True love and allegiance are not defined by presence alone; they endure in the quiet resolve of the heart. To hold onto love despite separation is an act of quiet strength rather than mere grief.

Written by Korean Buddhist monk and poet Han Yong-un, this line opens his 1926 collection, The Silence of Love. Created during Japanese colonial rule, the poem blends romantic devotion with spiritual themes and subtle resistance.

People often hang this near a bedside or quiet study as a gentle reflection on enduring love.
