“Der Mensch ist ein Seil, geknüpft zwischen Tier und Übermensch – ein Seil über einem Abgrunde.”
“Man is a rope, tied between animal and overman – a rope over an abyss.”

Words by Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) — German philosopher.

About this quote

Nietzsche suggests that humanity is not a finished state, but a temporary bridge. We exist in a precarious balance, caught between our basic animal instincts and our potential to evolve into something greater. Crossing this tightrope involves inherent danger and struggle, yet this difficult process of self-overcoming is precisely what gives human existence its meaning.

This passage comes from Friedrich Nietzsche's 1883 book, Thus Spoke Zarathustra. It features in Zarathustra's prologue, where he speaks to a gathered crowd about the evolution of human consciousness and purpose.

It suits a quiet study or personal library, offering daily motivation for discipline, intellectual growth, and self-improvement.
