Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. — Saint Francis of Assisi | Printable Wall Art

“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.”

Words by Saint Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) — Founder of the Franciscan order.

About this quote

This prayer is a humble request to be used as a channel for goodwill, calm, and reconciliation rather than conflict. It reflects a desire to set aside self-interest in order to bring comfort, forgiveness, and hope to others. The phrase encourages active compassion, prompting people to respond to hatred with love and to bring harmony wherever division exists.

Although traditionally attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi, the prayer first appeared in a French publication in 1912. It gained widespread international circulation during the First World War as a universal prayer for peace.

People often hang this print near a bedside or in a hallway for daily quiet reflection and calm.
