Life's most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for… — Martin Luther King Jr. | Printable Wall Art

“Life's most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for others?”

Words by Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968) — American civil rights leader and minister.

About this quote

This statement challenges us to look beyond personal ambition and consider our impact on the community. Martin Luther King Jr. argues that personal success matters little without service to others. He frames helpfulness not as an occasional charity, but as a central, unavoidable duty that requires active effort throughout our lives.

King delivered this line during an address in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1957. It became a recurring theme in his speeches, reflecting his belief that civil rights and social justice required daily individual action.

People often display this in hallways or entryways as a daily reminder of purpose before stepping outside.
