人生如夢，一尊還酹江月 — Su Shi | Printable Wall Art

“人生如夢，一尊還酹江月”
“Life is like a dream; I pour a cup in libation to the river moon.”

Words by Su Shi (1037-1101) — Song dynasty polymath poet, essayist, and calligrapher (also known as Su Dongpo).

About this quote

This reflection acknowledges the fleeting nature of human existence when compared to the vastness of time and nature. The poet reflects on past heroic figures and historical grandeur, concluding that human life passes like a transient dream. Rather than falling into despair, he offers a drink to the moon, choosing quiet acceptance and finding peace in the enduring beauty of the natural world.

Written by Song dynasty poet Su Shi in 1082, this famous line concludes his celebrated ci poem Remembering Chibi. Composed during his political exile, the work reflects on history, mortality, and quiet resignation beside the Yangtze River.

Often hung in a quiet study or bedside area, offering a calm reminder to accept life with grace.
