“It's not the will to win that matters—everyone has that. It's the will to prepare to win that matters.”

Words by Bear Bryant (1913-1983) — College football coach, six national championships at Alabama.

About this quote

Wishing for success is universal, but the willingness to put in the tedious, daily effort beforehand is what separates true achievers from the rest. Victory is decided long before the competition begins, in the quiet hours of practice and study. Real discipline lies in mastering the boring routines that make ultimate success possible.

Associated with Paul 'Bear' Bryant, an American college football coach who led the University of Alabama to six national titles. He used this maxim throughout his mid-twentieth-century coaching career to instil daily discipline in his players.

People often hang this print in a home office or study to encourage focus during daily preparation.
