In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks. — John Muir | Printable Wall Art

“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.”

Words by John Muir (1838-1914) — Scottish-American naturalist, father of the National Parks.

About this quote

This observation suggests that spending time outdoors offers unexpected rewards. While someone might set out on a walk simply for exercise or fresh air, the natural world provides deeper spiritual restoration, clarity, and peace. Muir believed that immersing oneself in wild landscapes restores the human spirit, yielding valuable insights and emotional healing that go far beyond any initial, modest expectation.

Written by the Scottish-born naturalist John Muir, this line appears in an entry from his July 1877 notebook. Muir kept extensive journals documenting his exploration and conservation of the American wilderness, particularly the Sierra Nevada region.

People often hang this print in a hallway or entryway as a reflective reminder before stepping outdoors.
