If everybody is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking. — George S. Patton | Printable Wall Art

“If everybody is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking.”

Words by George S. Patton (1885-1945) — U.S. Army general, WWII.

About this quote

This line warns against the dangers of groupthink and passive conformity. When a team or society agrees on everything without debate, it suggests that individuals have stopped analysing problems independently. True leadership and progress require critical inquiry, diverse viewpoints, and the willingness to challenge consensus. Without disagreement, genuine thought is absent.

The statement is attributed to General George S. Patton, the prominent American commander during the Second World War. It reflects his pragmatic philosophy on military strategy, effective command, and the necessity of independent judgement in high-stakes leadership.

People often display this quote in home offices or boardrooms to encourage independent critical thought and constructive debate.
