I was born with music inside me. — Ray Charles | Printable Wall Art

“I was born with music inside me.”

Words by Ray Charles (1930-2004) — Singer, songwriter, and pianist known for blending gospel, blues, and jazz.

About this quote

This line expresses the idea that musical ability and love for sound are innate rather than merely learned. It suggests that creativity is woven into a person's identity from birth, making artistic expression as natural and necessary as breathing. Rather than treating music as a skill acquired through practice alone, the statement frames it as an inescapable, foundational part of human nature.

The quotation appears in Ray Charles' 1978 autobiography, Brother Ray, written with David Ritz. In the book, the musician reflects on his early childhood in Georgia, describing how rhythm and melody felt entirely natural to him long before his formal career began.

People often hang this print in a music room, home studio, or living area to celebrate personal creativity.
