“I regard the truly valuable thing in the human machinery not as the state, but as the creative, feeling individual — the personality.”

Words by Albert Einstein (1879-1955) — Theoretical physicist.

About this quote

Einstein prioritises human individuality and imagination over rigid state authority or large organisations. He believes that true progress, art, and scientific discovery come from the distinct feelings and creative sparks of individual people. Institutions only exist to serve human beings, so society should value personal conscience, empathy, and original thought rather than demanding total conformity to the collective machine.

This line comes from Einstein's 1930 essay 'Wie ich die Welt sehe' (How I See the World). Written during a period of rising political totalitarianism in Europe, it outlines his personal belief in humanist values and individual liberty.

People often hang this in a home office or study as a daily reminder of creative autonomy and personal values.
