I knew that if I failed I wouldn't regret that, but I… — Jeff Bezos | Printable Wall Art

“I knew that if I failed I wouldn't regret that, but I knew the one thing I might regret is not trying.”

Words by Jeff Bezos (1964-) — Founder of Amazon.

About this quote

This quote reflects the principle of framing major decisions around long-term regret rather than immediate fear of failure. It suggests that while failing an attempt may bring brief disappointment, the lasting pain comes from inaction. Trying creates possibility and peace of mind, whereas stepping back guarantees lifelong wondering about what might have been.

Jeff Bezos uttered these words when reflecting on his decision in 1994 to leave a lucrative Wall Street career and launch Amazon. He used what he called a regret minimisation framework to project himself to old age and evaluate his choices.

People often hang this quote in a home office or study to encourage bold career decisions and creative ambition.
